Camp Discipleship Opportunities
Taking a few adolescent parents to serve at Young Life weekend or summer camp can be
a tremendous growth opportunity. These settings not only allow for extended
discipleship-oriented conversations but also let them experience service and leadership
from a new perspective. Engaging in service at camp helps adolescent parents develop a
sense of responsibility and community involvement, enhancing their spiritual journey and
leadership skills.
NEXT STEPS
YoungLives RISE
As teen parents graduate high school or reach an age outside of the scope of traditional
YoungLives, they can still benefit from their relationships with mentors and other young
parents. There are several ways of helping them stay involved with their YoungLives
friends as they and their children mature in their Christian walk. They can be invited to
join a RISE small group for further Bible study and relational ministry. Create a small
group just for your senior and alumni or suggest that one of them organize and lead it.
They can have their own Campaigners, go to church together, plan play dates together
and have other outings. Sometimes a mentor who is ready for a change will be willing to
lead this group.
Providing a way for older and/or past participants to serve and contribute not only helps
them to gain confidence and leadership skills, it also provides a stepping-stone for them
toward independence. With their own experiences and testimonies, YoungLives
participants can even aim toward becoming YoungLives mentors or other Young Life
staff in the future. Continue mentoring these young parents one-on-one and investing in
them as much as possible.

Leaders in Training or Helpers
Many YoungLives areas set up a way for older or alumni teen moms to serve side by side
with YoungLives mentors. This not only teaches them about the responsibilities and
expectations of being a mentor, but it also helps them to grow in their relationship with
Christ. It is important to provide training and to have clear expectations for this role.
