Mentors
Mentors are the backbone of the effectiveness of our ministry, playing a pivotal role in the
leadership team. These dedicated individuals venture into the communities, homes, and Lives of
YoungLives Dads, aiming to build enduring relationships and offer guidance and support.
Mentors must commit to:
Maintain a vibrant, growing personal relationship with Christ.
Proactively initiate and cultivate relationships with young dads.
Commit to walking alongside at least one young dad in a mentoring relationship for a
minimum of one year.
Regularly plan, attend, participate in, and bring young dads to club meetings and/or
Campaigners.
Participate in all monthly mentor training sessions and any required Young Life training.
Support and, if possible, attend YoungLives Dads summer camp or similar retreats designed
for young dads.
Engage in special events 4 such as field trips, parenting classes, and other relevant activities.
Pray for the young dads, the ministry, and fellow mentors.
It's crucial to avoid the common pitfall of recruiting, interviewing, and training mentors only to
leave them without ongoing support. Monthly mentor training sessions and regular one-on-one
check-ins are as vital as the direct engagement with young dads. These meetings should include
time for prayer, addressing questions, sharing ideas, training on relevant topics (such as abuse,
sex, discouragement, boundaries, camp experiences, discipleship, cultural sensitivity), recognizing
and appreciating efforts, and fostering friendships among mentors.
Adult Helpers
For those who cannot commit to a consistent role but want to help in a behind-the-scenes or
less-involved way 4 or for those who aren9t a great fit for mentoring, committee, or childcare 4
consider placing volunteers in adult helper roles. This can include those who help with
transportation, meals, crafts, set up and clean up. It is still important to acknowledge and
appreciate these volunteers and to make sure they feel included on the team, but they should not
be considered
