ESSENTIAL # 6:
YOUR VOLUNTEER
TEAM
To effectively support YoungLives Dads and their children, our ministry seeks a diverse team of
mentors, committee members, childcare volunteers, and adult helpers that mirror the young dads and
the community we serve.
The four most important roles to fill for supporting young dads are:
Mentor/Leader: Men committed to engaging with and supporting young dads through direct
contact, club meetings, and campaigners. These mentors are crucial for providing guidance,
support, and a positive example for YoungLives Dads navigating the challenges and joys of
parenthood.
Committee: A group of local adults passionate about making a difference in the Lives of young
families and dedicated to Young Life’s mission. The committee plays a vital role in supporting the
ministry through fundraising, securing administrative resources, and motivating staff.
Childcare volunteers: Individuals who create a safe and nurturing environment for the children of
young dads, adhering to the guidelines outlined in our childcare handbook. This support allows
YoungLives Dads to fully engage in ministry activities. Club Childcare Handbook in process. Stay
tuned!
Adult helpers: Volunteers who assist in various supportive roles, such as providing transportation,
preparing meals, setting up and cleaning up event spaces, and facilitating activities. These tasks
are essential for the smooth operation of ministry events and programs.
RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS
Whether you are looking for mentors, committee members, childcare volunteers, adult helpers or all of
the above, the same basic principles apply to volunteer recruitment.
1.Share the story. It's essential to convey the stories and needs of YoungLives Dads in various settings,
such as churches, Bible study groups, men's groups, gatherings of friends and family, and other
community organizations. Highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities young dads face will
help inspire potential volunteers to get involved.
2.Invite adults who reflect the adolescent parents you are serving. Aim to recruit volunteers who
reflect the diversity and experiences of the young dads we serve. This includes seeking out men who
can serve as mentors, offering their wisdom, experience, and support. Encourage your network to
identify individuals who could make a significant impact in these roles, emphasizing the value of their
contribution to YoungLives Dads and their children.
