Music
Music is essential to club and helps teen parents to let their guard down and shows them that you
value where they are. It also pulls the group together and sets the mood and pace of club. Use
appropriate secular music that participants enjoy to start club. Be sure to evaluate the lyrics and the
artists as you select music. Some things to keep in mind when planning music:
If you are having upfront club songs:
Have an enthusiastic leader! Enthusiasm up front and from the mentors in the crowd is the key
to good club music.
If you don’t have someone who can lead music, consider using lyric videos on YouTube that are
popular with the teen parents in your club.
Urge everyone present, including adults, to sing along, even if they aren’t good singers.
Incorporating dancing is popular with teen parents.
Before the club talk, shift to a content song about God's love. Choose songs that focus on God
loving us. Songs about us loving God do not help convey the gospel message to a non-believer.
Other ways to include music in your club:
Just Dance Videos
Karaoke
Include music during games, mixers, dinner, and as parents arrive/depart
Best practices
Be sensitive to the cultural diversity of your club. Choose songs that reflect the diversity of
your group.

Club Talk
The club talk is the verbal proclamation of the love of Christ that teen parents have already experienced
through the mentors in their lives. Club talks follow a progression through the semester or year, and
ideally, YoungLives club can meet monthly from September through June. Each meeting is an
opportunity to teach about the amazing plan of salvation through Jesus Christ. The club talks build
upon each other, so an effective sequence of topics can be like this:
September
Introduction to Club – God’s Love.

Person of Christ – Fully God/ Fully Man
November

December

January
Need – Filling Ourselves with Outside Things
