ESSENTIAL # 8:
CLUB
Once you have earned the trust of teen parents it is time to start planning club. The goal of YoungLives
club is to offer teen parents many of the elements of a typical Young Life club with the addition of
childcare and a meal. All aspects of YoungLives club should work together to support the sharing of the
gospel.
Your team is your greatest asset in putting together a great YoungLives club. A suggested best
practice is to have a planning meeting at the beginning of each semester, planning club and delegating
tasks. You can spend some time fine tuning club details at your monthly mentor meetings, leaving
time for checking in and training. Organize club at your monthly mentor meetings and delegate tasks.
It is helpful to plan clubs a semester or year in advance.
YOUNGLIVES CLUB ELEMENTS
Remember that the purpose of YoungLives club is for teen parents to feel welcome and celebrated.
This means all elements of club (games, music, food, skits, etc.) should be filtered through the cultural
lens of the adolescent parents.
Typically, YoungLives Club begins with fun activities such as games, skits, and mixers, along with music
to engage everyone and set a tone of relaxed expectancy. All the activities should lead up to the club
talk, which is the opportunity to present the gospel message in a relevant manner. Gospel proclamation
is a non-negotiable part of every YoungLives club.
